Easter Fevers

Well...we had planned on going to Indianapolis for Easter but didn't make it. After Landon's haircut on Thursday, he just wasn't himself and we knew it wasn't the new "do". We ran a few errands and I sat in the back with him because he was really unhappy. I placed my head on his forehead and thought he felt warm. We got home and had a fever of 102.5. We gave him some Tylenol, but just couldn't get it past 102. It got up to 104.8 on Thurday evening and called a helpline through St. Vincent's and they gave us some advice. We dealt with this up and down fever ranging from 102 to 105.1 Thursday, Friday and then Saturday morning called his doctor and got an appointment that morning. It was packed...something was going around. She checked him out and he was given a throat culture (spell?)to rule out Strep Throat. It was decided after a negative strep test that he just has viral pheringitis. And as well all know, viral means there is nothing that can be done and you just got to wait it out...lovely. I felt so bad that there was nothing I could do for him. Seeing that Tylenol wasn't bringing down his fever past 102, we tried Motrin and it worked great. The doctors office did tell us that they keep the culture swap for two days post his first visit just in case it changes. So, all Saturday and Sunday and Monday morning he continued to have fevers from 101 to 105. He won't eat and you can tell that his throat hurts terribly. We decided Monday morning that we were going to call the doctor if he still had a fever. 8:45 Monday morning we get a call from his doctor's office that over the past two days, his strep test went from negative to positive. In a way I was glad to see that there really was something more than just a "sore throat" because I knew there was just something more to it. He is on his first ever antibiotic and so far so good, he is just REALLY REALLY tired. It's amazing how these fevers have wiped him out. Our poor little man has been really fussy and beside himself. I can't get him to eat anything. So, hopefully this medicine will kick in by tomorrow and get him back on track to being a little 16 month old boy. I just don't have a clue where in the world he caught strep throat. I am so good about washing his hands whenever we get home from somewhere. It just goes to show that you can't be too clean, ever. As for Easter, we just had a nice breakfast together, since we couldn't go to church and colored in coloring books and relaxed. We took some pictures and got outside for a few minutes to get some fresh air. I did get a few smiles out of Landon. Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend. XOXOXOXOX- The Mobleys
