war wounds
today.
landon went to school. i notice a little scratch and red mark on his neck. didn't think too much of it. he has really sensitive skin and the velcro on his coat was rubbing his neck. two and a half hours later, i get a call from his school saying he has a rash that is spreading up his back and up his ear. i call the doctor. he has been on amoxicillin for about a week for an ear infection. they tell me they want to see him because they think he might be having a reaction to the medicine. so strange to hear that because he has taken amoxicillin several times for an ear infection. not to mention that he gets rashes at the simple change of soap or detergent or a dog hair. when i pick him up from school, he begins to complain of his ankle hurting. He says he has a ball on his ankle. I tell him that's just his ankle bone and he's fine. he begins to take off his sock and shoe and starts touching it and saying it really hurts. when we get home, i get to the backseat to help him out of the car and see he has a swollen knot on his ankle bone. it's bright red and hot. i call his preschool to see if by chance he fell or something (i knew he didn't because he would have told me when i asked) and they said he didn't. it wasn't bruised or anything. when we get to his appointment, to make a long story short, she tells me his rash is hives from the amoxicillin. the swollen ankle is a reaction from the medicine that developed hives on the actual ankle bone causing fluid, swelling and pain. it is causing pain in his joints and she said it will get worse before it got better. tonight before bed, we noticed him beginning to not only favor his foot that has the ankle swelling, but also his right hand. almost as though it was difficult to pick something up. i took a look at it and it too has begun to swell and he said it hurt when he used his hand. geesh. i'm just glad it's nothing serious, but i hate giving him benadryl which is the only thing i can give him for the reaction. it just makes him one unhappy kid. i can give him motrin for the pain, but that too, i don't like giving him too often. i took a few pictures for the doctor in case the rash changed between my call to them and our actual visit, so i'll share them here too.

our other war wound of the day is from our very dare devilish daughter, miss alexa. she is far more adventurous than Landon ever was at this age. we have found her standing on the fireplace mantel, holding onto nothing. we've found her standing on a plastic bin in the living room, holding onto nothing. she has been climbing into the wicker toy basket and diving out. but her new found favorite thing to do is climb onto a miniature rocking chair we have and stand up and rock. i have a video of that for your enjoyment but we will be working on the word "sit" like...tomorrow!
listen when i ask her what she is doing, it's almost like she is telling what it is she is doing. too funny.
VIDEO:
Now to the war wound. I wasn't crazy about her climbing into the wicker basket because I was afraid she was going to hurt herself. so, i thought i would find a laundry basket. something a little more low to the ground and not as rough. she climbed right on in, landed on her face. her lips poking out of the wholes on the side, face smashed. i am laughing until i realize she has hurt herself and she is crying in pain. i pull her up to find her lip red, her nose bleeding and her forhead bruised. what a day. i too have a picture of that. she's has happy as can be with scrapes all down her face.
