very, very sad

seven years ago, chris and I got our precious pup lily. she was our baby that we spoiled before we had landon. she is such a sweet dog, who yes was moody at times. she's by no means has been perfect but she has been a companion and a member of our family for several years. yesterday, she made a "very bad choice" (as landon has been saying). She bit Landon on the face pretty badly. So bad in fact that we have no other choice but to adopt her out to a family that has no children or children that are older. Landon has been a good sport but is very sad as are Chris and I. Lily was the first "child" in our family and we don't know what life looks like without her in our family. There is only so much we can do and we can't chance something like this happening again, especially to Alexa who knows no boundaries yet with Lily. It's been very confusing for Landon because Lily hasn't ever been a huge fan of the kids but lately she had been warming up to them. She had been sleeping with Landon until he fell asleep at night. They had been playing ball together. Chasing each other around the house and just having a good time. Then Landon snuck into my room yesterday morning to give her a kiss while she was sleeping and she snapped. We have potentially found a new home for Lily. The details will be worked out next week and after we talk some more about what happened. Chris has been gone this week and has yet to face Lily and see Landon. We know that placing Lily in another home will also make her happy as she is a very uptight, stressed little dog. She has so much anxiety and a home without kids would be better for her and we are telling ourselves that she too will be better off. We love our dear Lily and know we will be able to visit with her and enjoy pictures as we have already titled this transition as an "open adoption" with the couple that will be taking care of her. Lily has been such a great, sweet dog, who just so happens to be moody. I will update again later (as if anyone cares). But I do feel a little better writing this out. It is becoming more real that soon, Lily will no longer be a part of our family, but someone else's. We love you lily.

Here is landon right after she bit him

Here is landon today. for some reason it's looking worse today. I may be making a call to the doctor tomorrow. he is on an antibiotic to fight off any infection, but it is starting to look infected to me.

Jennifer,
It's Mauria, from high school. Let me know if you have any problems adopting out Lily. We have a petfinder account at work and I'd be more than happy to post her on it. Also, I know of a few bassett rescues here in Indy and maybe they can help. Let me know if there is anything I can do.
