A little scare...
Well, we had a bit of a scare last night.
It was about 5:30 and Chris was on his way home from work where he was then gonna stop by the Cook Pharmacy to pick up Quintons prescription to treat his double ear infection before he gets tubes in a coule weeks (finally). I was stirring the spaghetti and meatballs and trying to entertain Quiny in his high chair and give Alexa a small snack before dinner. Chris got home, greeted us all individually, and set Quin's meds on the counter. For some reason, Alexa kept taking pieces of Quins broccoli off his tray and snacking on them. I'm just listening and filling plates as we are about to sit down for dinner. Chris keeps telling Alexa to leave Quin alone and stop eating his broccoli. After about the fourth time, we hear a big crash! In slow motion we look over to see the high chair knocked over on top of Alexa with Quin inside as Alexa must have been standing on the side of the high chair and somehow pulled it over. Alexa and Quin are both crying and Chris swoops Quin out of the chair. I see on the side of his head that he has a pretty nasty cut and then my eyes are drawn to the front of his head where he has a use hematoma that has instantly filled with fluid. I pick Alexa up off the floor and comfort her and see she too has a minor bump on her forehead. Chris looks at me and insists we get Quin to the hospital right away. All five of us are crying at this point as we frantically get in the car. Landon is extremely scared and covering his ears to drown out the noise and I'm talking very loudly to Quin trying to keep frozen peas on his head but mostly trying to keep him awake as he is fading in and out trying to go to sleep. Chris calls the hospital to let them know we are coming and they greet him at the door and I park the car with Alexa and Landon. We run inside as I'm carrying a barefoot Alexa, and I follow the noise of Quin screaming in pain. We get through registration and sent straight back to a room where we are greeted by a sweet old lady with Popsicles and coloring books and stuffed animals for both Landon and Alexa and a small stuffed toy for Quin. We quickly see the doctor who checks Quin out and orders a CAT scan. Before we know it, I take him back to do the scan and he does great. Chris takes the kids to the house where we have by now arranged for someone to watch the two olders there as we weren't sure how long the results would take. By now Quin is showing some discomfort and hitting himself on the head. I ask for some Motrin for him and try to get him to go to sleep but he keeps laying on his poor bump and crying as it seems to be pretty sore. Before too long, the doctor comes into the room with great news! There is no scull fracture and no bleeding on the brain! What a relief! We were given discharge papers and guidelines and are to follow up with Quins pediatrician in a few days. Over all, Quin was himself and has been since the incident. As a matter of fact, he was literally waving and smiling at the hospital staff in the hall on the way to the CAT scan as they oooohed and ahhhhhed over his poor little head. His smile is so comforting and precious. It always has been but today especially as we are so blessed and thankful that he is alright!
